If you are a product designer with some years of experience, you are likely to consider mentoring others. And hey! You’re not alone. Only on ADPList there have been more than 150 million minutes of mentoring by now. In a growing industry with the ever-largest number of new product designers, mentors are highly needed for their clever advice and confidence in the craft. Mentors that want to be professional, knowledgeable, and "supafast". But did you know that yet most of them have never mentored before?
In this talk, Oriol will share a candid retrospective of his failures and learnings after more than 3000 minutes of mentoring on ADPList. He’ll tell you how democratic leadership, post-imposter syndrome, inclusivity, and emotional intelligence have helped him develop his career as a design mentor.
Hopefully, this talk will help you look far beyond the stereotypes of mentoring, and learn how to find a more trustful and genuine approach to engaging with mentees.
Oriol is a Principal Product Designer at Typeform, where he is leading cross-functional teams to improve the user experience for enterprise customers. He has over 12 years of experience designing useful and delightful digital products for E-Commerce and SaaS companies at growth-stage, like: Typeform, Zalando, GetYourGuide, DriveNow, Urban Sports Club, etc.
As a design leader, he optimizes and innovates on complex experiences to impact business growth metrics and leverages change initiatives across the org to grow design influence among stakeholders.
